We are looking to recruit a Financial Controller to join our Finance and Risk team, based in our Rugby office on a full time basis.

About the Role

The overall purpose of the role can be summarised as follows:

  • To provide accurate and timely management and financial information, with substantive analysis and interpretation to support sound decision making within Brethertons, and meeting our financial statutory requirements.
  • To deliver best practice client accounting and cashiering services strictly in accordance with the Solicitor’s Accounts Rules and our other regulatory obligations.
  • To provide management of the Ledger Accounts team (cashiering, purchase ledger and nominal ledger), including effective, positive performance management and objective setting.
  • To provide sound technical advice and to assist in strategic planning, programme and project management and implementation.

About you

In order to be successful you will be a qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA) with a minimum of 5 years PQE, with experience in a similar role at a similar level. You will have strong knowledge of Accounting Standards, Solicitors Accounts Rules, and VAT, and be able to apply the rules in a commercial environment. You will have a genuine desire for continuous improvement, and for transforming the way a legal firm operates. You will be a great people manager with experience of supervising a group of specialist technical teams and individuals to perform well against their Key Result Areas. You will be comfortable undertaking work that is complex in nature, while working under limited direction with reasonable autonomy and accountability, exercising sound initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices, processes and procedures.
