Contract: Full-time

Reporting to: Finance Director

Salary: Up to £25,000, depending on experience, including BUPA Healthcare, Pension, Death in Service Life Cover and a discretionary bonus scheme.

Hours: 09:00 to 17:30

About the Role:

Working under the day-to-day supervision of the Finance Director, the Junior Fees Clerk is expected to provide financial, administrative and organisational support to the Finance Team, and assist in the provision of an efficient, professional, service to Landmark’s members and clients. The role is likely to include (as a minimum) the following responsibilities :-

Fees Clerk Duties

  • Assisting the other Fees Clerk with the chasing of private aged debts.
  • Assisting where necessary with legally aided aged debt.
  • Sending fee notes for all new work billed.
  • Generating reminders via the LEX workflow system to chase outstanding cases.
  • Invoicing local authorities.
  • Entering payments received by cheque on LEX and sending confirmation of receipt to the barristers.
  • Ensuring that barristers cheques are banked on a daily basis.
  • Assisting with daily bank reconciliation when required.
  • Assisting with processing payments on Bankline when required.

Financial Duties

  • Assisting with posting ad-hoc payments to staff members and suppliers on Bankline.
  • Carrying out the daily banking round by depositing cheques received with the relevant bank(s).
  • Assisting with end of month tasks as and when required.
  • Assisting, as required, receiving and entering supplier purchase invoices on SAGE.
  • Assisting with the monthly supplier payment run.
  • Assisting with supplier accounts queries and sending out remittance advices following the monthly payment run.
  • Assisting with monthly bank reconciliation of office account when required.

Office Administration

  • Receiving and directing calls, ensuring that the phones are answered quickly and professionally, and that the caller reaches the appropriate person or voicemail box.
  • Timely and accurate printing and photocopying of all work-related documents.
  • Effectively managing both personal and ‘Finance Department’ email inboxes.

General Duties

  • Observing confidentiality in relation to all casework and other matters in chambers.
  • Complying with all of chambers’ procedures and any relevant regulations, including all relevant sections of the Code of Conduct of the Bar of England and Wales.
  • Providing general assistance to the Finance Team as and when required, and undertaking any task reasonably expected in the absence of a more senior colleague.

The Candidate:

Chambers are hoping to recruit a Junior Fees Clerk with circa two years’ experience of working in the same or a similar capacity. Previous experience within a barristers’ chambers or a similar legal environment would be preferable.

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively with colleagues, members of Landmark and professional clients.

Knowledge of the LEX case management system is desirable, along with an appreciation of SAGE accounts and Bankline.

The ideal candidate will be keen to develop and willing to learn new skills in Finance; study support may available to develop accountancy knowledge.

Elements of the role will include dealing with suppliers and barristers, which means that a professional attitude and demeanour is required at all times.
