A leading legal firm is looking to appoint a BD manager working within the BD and marketing function to provide strategic and hands-on support across all practice areas in the London office, and specifically to the Banking and Finance department, comprising leveraged finance, high yield and structured finance & derivatives.

The role will involve extensive interaction with partners and fee earners, as well as working with the other support areas in the London office and the wider global BD team. The successful candidate will be responsible for taking charge of strategic BD projects (often to tight deadlines), delivering high quality output that is measurable and helps generate opportunities, preparing practice awards, legal directory submissions and evaluating other sponsorship and profile raising opportunities. In addition, adding value to content for pitches and proposals through clever and commercial ideas and driving the pitch process, e.g. tracking wins and losses, obtaining client feedback and coaching client teams and providing support to the office’s key clients and targets programme, identifying and channeling opportunities through to the right people and helping the client relationship partner cross-sell to other practice groups and offices. You will work with the finance team to keep track of fee proposals and provide input on alternative fee models and also with the research team to produce analysis on clients, prospects, sectors and competitors for specific BD initiatives and projects, and in addition working with the Head of Business Development to deliver BD training to support staff and fee earners.

You will have 5-8 years BD/Marketing experience at manager level or above in professional services, ideally the legal sector and have experience of running complex projects involving a range of stakeholders across practice areas and geographies, be conscientious, with strong attention to detail and accuracy, have a positive, can do and hands-on attitude, with flexibility to turn to a variety of tasks whilst being confident and resilient. You must be able to work in a team environment and with partners and fee earners and possess excellent written and oral skills, be self-motivated, with the ability to juggle a number of deadlines, proficient in the use of PowerPoint, Word and Excel and experience of using InterAction would be helpful but not essential.
