The Role

This role will be cross disciplinary supporting both the IS and IR teams via a range of activities:

  • Collection management.
  • Research support
  • Current Awareness and alerts
  • KM specific resources management


Responsibilities and Duties

Resources Management

  • Supporting the IR team to manage resources effectively.
  • Assisting with the acquisition and management of all resources (online and hardcopy) including applying established processes and due diligence.
  • Assisting with the administration of the Library Management System (LMS) to:
    • Maintain and update the serials module of the LMS.
    • Catalogue all resources, ensuring that standards are applied consistently
    • Process new orders, renewals and cancellations.
    • Ensure user records are up to date

Research Support

  • To support the research enquiry service provided by the Information Specialist Team.
  • To undertake research covering legal, business and market intelligence in an accurate, cost effective and timely manner, using both internal and external resources.

Current Awareness and Alerts

  • To assist the IS team to set up, monitor and manage alerting, tracking and current awareness services as required, tailoring them to individual and team needs. Adhering to KM standards on production, content and output.

KM Projects

  • To assist the Knowledge Operations Manager with project management tasks and ensuring the smooth running of KM operations.


The Team

The Knowledge Management (KM) Department is aligned to the London office strategic goals of improving operational efficiency and managing risk.

Knowledge Management enables fee earners to create, share and apply knowledge and information to serve our clients in smarter, faster and better ways. The department provides the means to organise and locate relevant content and expertise to address specific business tasks and projects.

The KM Department specialises in information and knowledge, comprising of  the following teams servicing the London office.

  • Information Specialists (IS) responsible for providing research  and current awareness services to fee earners, support departments and clients. They also provide training in legal research and legal research tools.
  • Information Resources (IR) manage our external information resources including electronic and hard copy subscriptions. They also administer the copyright licences and policy for the London office.
  • KM Operations responsible for project management and implementation of bespoke knowledge solutions for London Office and ensuring London optimises its use of global solutions.


Key Skills and Experience Required

Qualifications
Degree qualified and/or professional information management qualification

Relevant Experience
At least 1 year information experience in a professional services or commercial environment, preferably in a research and collection management role.

Core Competencies

  • A strong customer oriented approach to service provision
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks
  • Knowledge of library management systems
  • Good written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to pay attention to details

Technical Skills

  • Good IT skills (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and content management  tools)
  • Organises work to allow others easy access to information and documents. Supports and facilitates knowledge and information sharing.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of good practice in research, training and  information resource management.

Professionalism and Development

  • Anticipates future requirements and acts upon them. Ability to see the big picture and understand cause and effect.
  • A creative and analytical thinker, able to bring new ideas to the table.
  • Ability to spot problems before they occur, solves problems and refers potential areas of concern to Line Manager or Head of KM.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to own professional development - product and technical awareness as well as trends in the market.
  • Recognises own strengths and weaknesses and takes responsibility for seeking feedback and own development as a Junior Knowledge Management Specialist.
