The Transaction Services Team (TST) is AG's award winning and dynamic response to the changing legal market. Since the TST's inception in 2010 it has grown from 5 paralegals in Manchester to over 140 across all our UK offices. We have impressive expansion plans for the future, with great opportunities for you to contribute to the development of an already successful team.

Our team of creative and ambitious paralegals, apprentices, lawyers and managers supports the firm and its clients. Our unique structure means the team is able to undertake significant and high profile projects that wouldn't otherwise be possible and we regularly receive requests for client secondments or inter-office support.

Our client base is impressive and we have fantastic opportunities to work with some of the UK's largest FTSE 100 clients. The work undertaken by the TST is varied, challenging and interesting. The range and scale of our work is compelling and encompasses everything from highly complex pieces to the everyday. This means each day is different and members of our team are continually developing new skills and legal knowledge.

We are currently looking for a paralegal or junior lawyer to work within our Financial Regulation team in London. This is a fantastic opportunity for legal professionals to expand their skill set and be part of a growing and exciting team. However, we are not limiting recruitment to those with a current legal background. We would also welcome applicants who are looking to return to the legal profession after an absence.

Addleshaw Goddard is also one of the top 30 employers for working families and is able to offer part time hours to suit busy parents, students or those with other commitments.

Role description

We are seeking an enthusiastic paralegal, or junior lawyer who has an interest in know-how, training, regulatory change (with a particular focus on the financial sector) and business development activities.

Applicants do not need to have background in financial services regulation however some knowledge of identifying key businesses, regulatory changes, and the types of issues organisations operating in the financial services sectors are likely to identify as relevant to their businesses would be preferable.

Key Responsibilities
· to assist with and carry out research and drafting of financial regulatory legal updates and client briefings – for example, on legislative or FCA handbook changes, FCA/PRA consultations or policy papers, EU and UK case law developments. The work in the team covers both retail and wholesale financial services.
· general research tasks for fee earners in our financial services team;
· to own and lead horizon scanning activities for our online client horizon scanning tool - "Torchlight":

* working with the Legal Director of Knowledge and the wider team to identify and draft new items to be uploaded; entering updates to existing items;
* liaising with key internal and external stakeholders eg Knowledge Services on the admin and oversight of Torchlight to ensure it is up to date.
* Working with internal stakeholders to ensure client requests to be added to Torchlight are managed in a timely fashion, and support client training on Torchlight, where requested.
* to lead on other "business as usual" client horizon scanning activities from time to time, including liaising with internal stakeholders to produce regular regulatory updates;
* to lead and co-ordinate tasks with internal stakeholders, including team PAs, Audio Visual and Room Reservations teams, in connection with preparing client training sessions, including liaising with clients about attendance and responding to their queries;
* to attend team meetings, draft summaries and updates and be prepared to walk the team through these at the sessions and generally support the Legal Director of Knowledge in the delivery of internal know how sessions
* to support the Legal Director of Knowledge and other fee earners on business development activities, where required – e.g. help with pulling together the annual legal directory submissions to Chambers, assist with setting up meetings/calls with key clients, attending meetings with other lawyers to gain experience and insight into what's important to our clients
* generally to support the Legal Director of Knowledge in all areas of the practice
* the nature of the role would not include undertaking fee earning work

What we are looking for
Due to the dynamic nature of the work we do and the clients we seek to serve, the role is not an ordinary 9-5 job. We are looking for someone with a strong work ethic, who takes real pride in their work and who is comfortable working in a fast paced environment. You will have:
* A high level of attention to detail;
* Organised and able to meet deadlines and manage expectations when balancing a busy workload;
* An interest in financial services, regulation or a "technical" area of law
* Someone who is comfortable with direct client contact;
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating an ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels of our business;
* An ability to work proactively and make decisions for themselves but able to seek support as and when required;
* A positive, enthusiastic, and proactive approach to their work and willing to learn and develop new skills
