Purpose of the role

To assist in the specification, development, testing and support of Kennedys’ suite of global financial systems and to help provide technical solutions to business challenges.


Operations – Assisting in the preparation and implementation of operational processes and procedures as required by the Financial Systems Manager.
  • Assist with the production of documentation for financial systems procedures, development specifications, test plans and training guides.
  • Provide functional test plans and test datasets for any aspects of the Elite 3E, Intapp workflow, Chrome River Expense and SSRS Reporting systems and for Kennedy’s customisations and upgrades to those systems, as specified by the Financial Systems Manager.
  • Test application upgrades, check functionality and test new and future functionality in line with test plans. Document test results in accordance with procedures. Assist and support other testers as required by the Financial Systems Manager.
  • Managing and administering data within financial systems related SQL databases to ensure data is accurate, consistent and error-free.
  • Complying with documented configuration management and change management processes and procedures.
  • Be prepared to work flexibly using a follow the sun approach to provide support to all global offices as required.

Projects – work as part of project teams to implement new financial systems, upgrades and changes to existing systems and other business driven projects as required by the Financial Systems Manager.
  • Implementation, documentation, testing and roll-out of new financial and related applications as well as upgrades and changes to existing applications and assisting suppliers with the same.
  • Working with the IT Development Team on development projects as required by the Financial Systems Manager.
  • Assisting in the planning and implementation of first and second-line support services for new and changed financial applications and the hand-over of support to relevant finance teams.
  • Contribute to project issue logs for functional testing and conversion validation. 

Procurement and Supplier Management – Assist the Financial Systems Manager in the procurement of IT hardware, software and service as required.
  • Specification of hardware, software and infrastructure requirements as required.
  • Ensuring that suppliers carry out planned tasks in a satisfactory manner.
  • Managing suppliers in the performance of tasks carried out under relevant maintenance and support contracts.
  • Testing and assessing supplier deliverables to ensure that they meet agreed quality and service standards.

Training – Assisting in the development of training materials for the firm’s staff.
  • Assisting the IT Training Team to plan training requirements arising from projects and major application upgrades.
  • Transferring application and process knowledge to the IT training teams or relevant finance teams in order that they prepare training materials.

Service Delivery – While not primarily a support role, from time to time the provision of first and second-line support will be required and will involve the following;
  • Reviewing and updating incidents assigned to the Financial Systems Team on the IT helpdesk system for 3e users in areas including time capture, billing, cashiering and general ledger. 
  • Diagnosing and resolving faults, queries and requests assigned to the Financial Systems using telephone and remote support systems.
  • Delegating incidents to the appropriate supplier if not able to resolve them in a timely or satisfactory manner.
  • Ensuring incidents are resolved in a timely manner in accordance with the published service levels including incidents that are delegated to suppliers.
  • Escalating incidents to the Financial Systems Manager where they are not progressing in a timely or satisfactory manner.
  • Advising the Financial Systems Manager if there are any technical or resource issues that may impact on the department’s ability to meet published service levels.

Other Responsibilities
  • Any other relevant tasks as specified by the Financial Systems Manager.
  • To maintain the high standard of service offered to the firm’s existing clients and to assist in creating and developing the professional reputation of the department and the firm.
  • To operate the firm’s quality procedures and information security systems as specified in the current edition of the Service Standards. 
  • To be subject to varying degrees of supervision on a day-to-day basis liaising with partners, managers and other support staff on a regular basis.  To work on your own initiative.
  • To ensure confidentiality and security of all practice and client’s documentation and all information.
  • To undertake any specific training courses identified by the HR Department, line managers or external training provider.
  • To operate safely in the work place.

The person – Knowledge, Skills and experience


  • Experience gained in a professional services environment 
  • A solid understanding of accounting principles 
  • Experience of a Practice Management System (e.g. Elite3e,  Aderant)
  • Fundamental knowledge of .net development methodologies
  • SQL querying experience 
  • Ability to demonstrate high level of technical expertise in this area 
  • Ability to produce high quality process documentation tailored to audience 
  • Proven influencing and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work at speed and balance a wide range of activities at any one time
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Elite 3e experience 
  • Previous experience in a law firm or exposure to a law firm 
  • Experience in providing financial systems on a global basis
  • SQL Server administration experience
