Legal technology managers are the 'go-to' points of contact for their practice areas on IT related activities. They are based within the practice areas and are the interface between the legal operations, other legal business services and IT. Technology is transforming the practise of law, and a new landscape of legal service delivery is emerging, where technology enables instant, far-reaching knowledge retrieval and data-driven processes that can deliver efficiencies, analysis, and collaboration in an easy and transparent manner.

Some of the major global law firms face massive challenges in implementing large scale IT systems such as document management and knowledge management systems within the latest cloud technologies. Legal knowledge systems currently include technologies and related processes for: data capture, collation, classification and publishing, and search; legal contract drafting (including automated drafting), checking, collaboration, analysis and archiving/reference. Roles within legal technology range from entry level data processors and network management to head of department responsible for the IT infrastructure worth billions of investment and profitability gains along with the vast international teams involved in all there is regarding legal IT support.
